Auld Shillelagh
105 Stoke Newington Church Street, N16
020 7249 5951
theauldshillelagh.co.uk
'While other pubs in the neighbourhood let people stare proudly in through plate glass windows, The Auld Shillelagh has stuck with frosted glass shutting out those who weren't already au fait with the place and keeping the world from those who come in to escape it. This is an Irish pub not an Oirish pub. The air is dense with the fog of Marlboro Lights, the atmosphere is never oppressive and the Guinness - if you're drinking any thing else you should be drinking somewhere else - will be poured in its own time and brought to your table unprompted by staff never slow to smile... a place in which to get mashed in convivial company. On good nights it's the best pub in Stokey' Time Out London Bars, Pubs and Clubs, 2005-6
