THE DUKE SPIRIT

The Duke Spirit are Leila Moss (vocals, harmonica), Luke Ford (guitar, vocals), Toby Butler (bass, drums) and Dan Higgins (guitar, keyboards), a London quartet whose brilliant brand of dusty blues / art rock has been taking shape since their inception last year. The band drink from a tainted wellspring of atmospheric rock'n‚ roll, employing a formidable arsenal which includes echo, distortion, slide and blues harp to build a reverberative wall of sound like the noise that vibrates through Phil Spector‚s worst prison nightmares. The band associate with Simon Raymonde (ex-Cocteau Twin and Bella Union boss) and their sound has attracted comparisons with Clinic, JAMC and the legendary Gun Club - high praise, low lives...

FRANK'S BACK

'I have been asked what has made Frank's Happy Hours such a great success. And the answer must be the attention to detail - it is a complete magical package of a night out. You just can't stop yourself having a ball.

From the moment you arrive and spot the stretched limo parked outside, classic Sinatra movies sourced by The Film Shop, a special range of Pizzas from Il Bacio, wonderful DRY martinis and not forgetting the music of the man himself with his famous Ratpack - played on a new sound system which is unequalled anywhere around here. Above all else the wonderfully diverse audience that truly enjoy such a unique evening.' Stoke Newington Village Voice

GIN PALACE

'The most exciting band in London right now!' Artrocker

'The Gin Palace have an awesome strength in their sound, think The Kills with a touch of P.J. Harvey. Guitar, drums, and a female vocalist with some fine red puckered lips, this three-piece gave us a sweaty Cramps-style set to much applause and smiles. A worthy rockin' group with a sound stripped down to guttural power and poise. It would be criminal to miss their gigs.' Your Generation

'Newly formed from the ashes of criminally overlooked London rockers PENTHOUSE, THE GIN PALACE trio strip it down to rock'n'roll essentials... guitar, drums and vocals. It's Heavy RockIn' Garage-a-Billy, blues rhythms with chromosones missing. CRAMPS? LINK WRAY? STOOGES? ' Hunching, convulsing Twang-Power!' Artrocker

HANK WANGFORD AND THE LOST COWBOYS

Rock 'n' roll doctor, author and travel journalist are just some of the hats worn by Hank Wangford - but the one best suited is a dusty, trusty cowboy hat.

Having been turned onto country music in the early seventies by former patient and jamming buddy, Gram Parsons; the man described as the guilty conscience of British country music has gone on to influence a host of British artists, including Billy Bragg, The The and Alabama 3.

'If you want originality, something that still has the bite and twang that drained out of so much country, the sharp cutting wit and the rawness of hard country, then there is only one man to see. His name is Hank Wangford.'

Their live shows are full of raw energy and bitterness, played knowing that while punk may be dead, The Ideots still live. This band have a certain arrogant charm about them. They're young, cheeky-faced and overflowing with testosterone : they're mad at the world and want you to know it.

Recently signed to Hubb Records, recording for the first release is to commence over the summer and will hopefully be available soon after. In the meantime enjoy the shows.

LUCKY JIM

lucky-jimThere are echoes of Neil Young, Lee Hazlewood, Nick Cave, Van Morrison, Serge Gainsbourg, Arthur Lee, Leonard Cohen, Brian Wilson, Gram Parsons, Bob Dylan, Ewan MacColl, Phil Spector and many others - but it is all done in such individual and modern style that the songs are far more than the sum of their influences.

You may hear some of the twinkle of 21st century 'chill out' music, but this is not generic comedown fodder - the emotional pallette of the lyrics and arrangements is too rich for that.

MARY LEE'S CORVETTE

In 2002 Mary Lee's Covette scored a surprise hit with 'Blood on the Tracks', a fearless song-for-song reinterpretation of Bob Dylan's 1975 classic of the same name. Although some may have regarded this as an act of criminal sacrilege, Dylan himself embraced the re-working and featured one of the tracks on his website.

More recently front-woman, Mary Lee Kortes, has contributed to the book, 'Storyteller' - a collection of short stories written by among others Ray Davies, Joan Jett and Lou Reed - and has spent the last few months supporting Joe Jackson throughout the US.
